Valle de los Caídos

It is a monument of enormous dimensions that was built during the Franco dictatorship. Francisco Franco ordered its construction, and is buried there along with 33 872 combatants in the civil war belonging to both sides. The architects Pedro Muguruza and Diego Méndez participated in its design. At the top of the monument is the largest cross in the Christian world, 150 meters high and 260 meters long. The set belongs to National Heritage since its opening to the public on April 1, 1959.
