Located in the Jaragua National Park, the Oviedo lagoon is a 27 km2 wetland and 1.5 m deep of very salty water; It is one of the biggest attractions for ecological tourism in the park. Its 60 different species of waterfowl, the abundant crabs, iguanas, herons, flamingos and seagulls make the beautiful natural landscape fill with life and color for all who come. In addition, it is the natural habitat of protected species such as the solenodon and jutía, and of 11 different species of bats. Among the most striking animals in the area, you can find the rhinoceros iguana and the Ricord iguana, which are endemic to the island and in danger of extinction.
